At Mimoki we bring you very interesting content to resolve many of the questions you often ask us.
Today we talk about the dress code , a topic that concerns you and for which today, we give you some basic advice to be the perfect guest.
The dress code for women at weddings is an important issue that must be taken into account when choosing your look. There are many factors that influence the choice of dress, such as the type of wedding, the time of day, the location and the time of year.
What is dress code?
It is a dress code that complies with a series of rules and guidelines that identify the way to dress on certain occasions. Each event has its own code and therefore it must be adhered to.
The dress code includes some basic rules that every guest must respect.
Knowing how to choose the right look for a wedding can seem complicated, so we bring you some basic clothing tips.
The first thing that determines the dress code of a perfect guest is whether it is time for the celebration.
Morning or afternoon wedding?
A morning wedding is one that is celebrated in the morning and is followed by a lunch or meal.
In an afternoon/evening wedding the celebration takes place in the afternoon and continues with dinner.
INVITED TOMORROW'S WEDDING
For a daytime wedding , it is best to opt for a knee-length or midi cocktail dress. You can also opt for a suit jacket with trousers or a midi skirt .
Try not to wear shiny fabrics or overly exuberant jewelry. It is much better to opt for defined or pastel colors or printed fabrics in bright tones.
The most elegant guests of morning weddings enhance their look with hats, brimmed hats or winged headdresses that harmonize with the silhouette and style of the outfit.
Heels, preferably without a platform, can be high or medium.
For a daytime wedding, which tends to be much longer, a great option, and above all the most comfortable, is to choose a wide, medium-height heel. So you can enjoy it from start to finish.
Clutch bags, in their larger version, complement the ideal guest at a morning wedding.
Here are some of our favorite suggestions:
EVENING WEDDING GUEST
For an afternoon or evening wedding, long or short dresses, jumpsuits and pantsuits are permitted.
The midi dress is always a good ally in your wardrobe as it is ideal to wear at both afternoon and morning weddings.
The size of the headdress does matter. Hats and sunhats can only be worn at morning weddings.
But that doesn't mean that wearing caps, headbands, turbans, headbands or crowns isn't a great success at evening weddings.
At evening parties where long dresses are required, we will opt for smaller headdresses that are integrated into the hairstyle. Combs, turbans or jeweled headbands.
As for the evening bag, it should be a handbag or clutch type. You can play with shapes and fabrics depending on the importance you want to give it.
If you choose a handbag that matches the dress, it will go more unnoticed. And if you choose a clutch that stands out with its colour or with jewellery elements, it will be the accessory that attracts all eyes.
Heels can be higher and have a platform to match the outfit. (Don't forget to bring a second, more comfortable option in case the dance lasts until dawn.)
As for black for an evening wedding, it should always be combined with another colour. A total black look is not suitable for wedding guests, so it is better to reserve your LBD for other types of events and cocktail parties.
For evening or night weddings, opt for deep colours with fabrics that can be more satiny. Patterns can also be a great option when it comes to satin fabrics.
Blues, from klein, ink blue to navy, are always perfect for afternoon weddings.
Ideal to combine with other shades of blue, and with accessories in nude tones or even with black.
Strawberry and wine colors are also ideal for combining with each other, and can be complemented with accessories in nude and metallic tones.
We love adding a touch of sparkle with oversized gold jewelry. 70s-style earrings or large gold-plated textured bracelets are the perfect touch of light to elevate an evening guest look.
Some easy tricks to memorize:
The later the event, the smaller the headdress will be.
The later the event, the longer the dress can be.
The longer the sleeve, the shorter the glove will be.
The earlier the event, the less sparkle and shine.
Civil wedding or religious wedding?
RELIGIOUS WEDDING GUEST
If the wedding is a church celebration , you must respect the expected forms of appropriate dress.
To do this, you must keep in mind that the length of the skirt should not go above the knee and avoid very low necklines, as well as bare shoulders/backs inside the church.
If your choice of dress or top has these characteristics, a good ally for the ceremony would be a shawl or a cape, although we also love a kimono, a jacket or a blazer or tuxedo-style jacket... the best choice is the one that best matches the style of your outfit.
Be careful! If you wear a shawl, make sure it is stylish. Prepare the shawl with a brooch beforehand so that it will always stay in place and your hands will be free.
Speaking of color, you should know that white is never worn to a religious wedding, as it is the color reserved for the bride. Nor would it be appropriate for a guest to attend a wedding in a total black look, a color associated with mourning.
CIVIL WEDDING GUEST
If the wedding is civil , you can take more liberty when choosing the neckline and length of your dress than if it is a more relaxed celebration without a dress code as strict as in religious celebrations.
The location of the celebration and the dress code established by the bride and groom will determine the dress code for all their guests.
If it is an urban wedding, a good option would be a set of printed pants with a blouse in vibrant tones and combine it with accessories that provide sophistication such as a headband or cap that will elevate your look .
If it is a more rustic or beach wedding, a boho midi printed dress with a hat made of natural materials for a morning wedding. And a flowing ankle-length dress with a flower crown or tiara for an afternoon-evening wedding is a sure hit.
